Search & Rescue Coordinator Search and Rescue (SAR) Coordinator

Manages the overall search operation, acting as the central command for all resources, personnel, and communications while coordinating with law enforcement and other agencies. Their responsibilities include planning the search strategy, deploying teams, managing communications, providing leadership and direction, ensuring responder safety, gathering and analyzing information, maintaining documentation, and facilitating the integration of various resources and agencies to locate missing persons.

Key Roles & Responsibilities Overall Command and Control: Acts as the central point of contact and leadership for the entire search operation. Makes strategic decisions regarding search tactics, resource allocation, and operational direction.

Resource Management: Identifies and deploys appropriate SAR resources, such as ground teams, aerial searches, K9 units, or specialized vehicles. Manages the deployment and coordination of all search and rescue teams and personnel.

Coordination and Communication: Establishes and maintains effective communication channels between all involved units and agencies. Interfaces with law enforcement, reporting parties, and other organizations to gather and disseminate critical information.

Operational Planning & Tactics: Develops and executes search plans based on the victim's last known location, victim behavior patterns, and terrain conditions. Uses search strategy principles like probability of detection analysis to optimize search efforts. Information Management & Reporting: Collects and analyzes information about the missing person and the incident to inform search decisions. Maintains comprehensive documentation, logs, and reports related to the search operation.

Safety and Oversight: Ensures the safety of all search and rescue personnel by overseeing the implementation of safety protocols and the use of appropriate personal protective equipment. Monitors the progress and performance of SAR teams.

Liaison and Collaboration: Collaborates with other agencies, such as law enforcement, to ensure a unified and effective response. Establishes agreements with neighboring agencies for mutual support if needed.

Search & Rescue Team

Search and Rescue Team is responsible for locating, assessing, and assisting missing or endangered individuals, often involving specialized tools like search dogs, helicopters, and rope systems to provide medical aid and safely transport them to safety. Their duties include comprehensive searches, tactical and logistical support, providing critical first aid and medical assistance, effective communication with command and field teams, and conducting post-operation analysis for future mission improvement. These teams operate in conjunction with law enforcement, providing ground search capabilities, using specialized resources, and potentially performing supervisory roles in the field and at the Incident Command Post.

Roles and Responsibilities: Search Operations Systematically searching for the missing person using various methods, including ground patrols, K9 units,and specialized vehicles. Locating and Accessing Individuals: Employing specialized tools such as helicopters, rope systems, and search dogs to find and access individuals in distress or hazardous situations.

Medical Assistance: Providing immediate first aid and medical care to the rescued person.

Evacuation and Transportation: Safely evacuating and transporting individuals from dangerous areas to a secure location or medical facility.

Logistical Support:Managing and coordinating resources, transportation, and essential supplies like food, water, and medical equipment for the mission and rescued individuals.

Communication and Coordination:Establishing clear communication protocols to maintain situational awareness and coordinate efforts between field teams and the Incident Command Post.

Specialty Resources: Providing and utilizing specialized resources, which can include equestrian units, water rescue teams,or communication specialists, to adapt to different scenarios.

Post-Operation Analysis: Conducting debriefing and analysis after missions to identify lessons learned, improve future erations,and maintain high standards of performance.

Coordination and Collaboration: Law Enforcement Partnership Working closely with law enforcement agencies, which have the authority to accept missing person reports and access critical information like financial and social media records.

Media and Communications Coordinator & Team: Crafts and executes communication strategies to raise public awareness of missing individuals, particularly youth, on behalf of a non-profit organization. This role requires a balance of empathy and professionalism to manage sensitive information while engaging effectively with media, families, & the public.

Core roles and responsibilities Media relations - Generate media attention: Pitch stories to journalists and establish relationships with news outlets to secure coverage for missing persons cases, amplifying their stories beyond local networks. Coordinate media interviews: Act as the primary contact for media inquiries and coordinate interviews with organization representatives or affected families. Draft and distribute content: Write and disseminate press releases, media advisories, and public statements to provide accurate and timely information to the media.

Monitor coverage: Track and report on media coverage related to missing persons cases to assess the impact of communication efforts. Content creation and social media management Write and edit compelling content, including website updates, newsletters, blog posts, and annual reports, to engage the public and donors.

Manage social media: Develop and manage social media campaigns across platforms like Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and LinkedIn to increase public awareness and drive engagement.

Produce multimedia materials: Create visual assets such as graphics and short videos for use in outreach campaigns, online channels, and events.

Curate stories: Collect and present impact stories and testimonials from families and partners to help humanize and contextualize the organization's work. Communications strategy and execution. Develop communications plans: Lead the creation and review of communication and visibility plans that align with the organization's overall goals.

Transportation Coordinator facilitates travel arrangements for runaway and homeless youth, ensuring their safety and connection to stable, secure housing, which may include famreunification or placement in an alternative setting. This role is common within social service agencies, including those affiliated with the National Runaway Safe line.

Key roles and responsibilities Client assessment and planning Evaluate needs: Assess each runaway's situation to determine the most suitable and safest transportation plan, whether it's returning home or moving to another location. Create transport plans: Plan and coordinate safe transportation routes and schedules for youth. Coordinate resources: Act as a liaison with community partners to identify available transportation resources, shelter, and other services for youth.

Logistics and oversight Arrange transportation: Book and manage travel arrangements, such as bus or airline tickets, for youth and, if necessary, an accompanying staff member.

Manage vendors: Establish and maintain relationships with transportation providers, and manage contracts to ensure they meet required standards.

Oversee staff: Train, supervise, and coordinate the activities of drivers or other staff involved in transportation.

Safety and compliance Ensure safety protocols: Implement and enforce safety guidelines for transporting minors, which may include rules for vehicle maintenance and proper safety equipment like child safety seats. Compliance and regulations: Ensure all transport activities, staff, and vendors comply with relevant federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Address emergencies: Be prepared to address and resolve any transportation-related issues or emergencies that may arise during transit, including delays or incidents.
